Dr. Dieter joined University Heart Surgeons and the UT Medical Center clinical staff in 1997. In addition to being a practicing cardiothoracic surgeon, Dr. Dieter is affiliated with the Chest Service of UT Medical Center.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Tennessee in 1983 and in 1990 a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Chicago, where he was elected class president of the medical school.  He returned to Tennessee to complete an internship in general surgery at UT Medical Center and followed that with a general surgery residency at UTMC. Dr. Dieter’s fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery was at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.

Dr. Dieter holds board certification from the National Board of Medical Examiners, the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons and a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons
